We meet every Sunday (nearly) i.e.
1st Sunday of the month -
Cairns - a 2.5 hour bird walk around the Centenary
Lakes beginning at the Freshwater Lake on Greenslopes St at 0630
hrs.
This is the Cairns-area #2 hotspot
- most world birders see their first Black Bittern
and Little Kingfisher here, just two of the
best.
Our club has recorded over 150 species on this walk in the last
5 years.
2nd Sunday of the month -
2004
Cairns Esplanade birding, usually around
4pm, on the new boardwalk. Sometimes followed by
a slide evening or an evening get-together to discuss birds and
bird events at the Cock & Bull, casual restaurant and pub near the
sea end of Grove St; from 1830 hrs onward.
May 9 Esplanade birding from 1130-1400hrs. Casual
get-together, Cock & Bull, 1930 hrs.
June 13 Esplanade birding from 1600hrs, followed by a casual
get-together, Cock & Bull.
July 11 Esplanade birding from 1600hrs, followed by African
slides at 247 McLeod St.
Aug 8 Esplanade birding from 1600hrs, then finding
this year's Peregrine nesting site on the
Matson Plaza, followed by a casual get-together, Cock & Bull.
Sep 12 Esplanade birding from 1630hrs, followed by a
casual get-together, Cock & Bull.
Oct 10 Esplanade birding from 1600hrs, followed by a casual
get-together, Cock & Bull.
Nov 14 Esplanade birding from 1300hrs. Casual get-together,
Cock & Bull, 1930 hrs.
3rd Sunday of the month -
Monthly outings to various destinations
within a 150km radius of Cairns. Starts at 0730 hrs at the destination.

May 16 Behana Gorge: meet at the main Rd t/o south of Gordonvale.
Jun 20 Tinaroo Dam trail just east of the dam, meet
at the Tinaroo Dam restaurant 0730. Leader David Anderson.
July 18 Platypus Retreat (near Malanda) and Topaz Rd. Meet
at main entry road into L.Eacham 0730 hrs.
Aug 15 Lake Mitchell, south end 0730, and Big Mitchell Ck.
Meet with NZ birdo group.
Sep 19 Cairns Hill Slopes, reservoir trail off Marti St. Meet
0730 outside Cairns Village Resort, Anderson St, Woree.
Oct 17 Speewah Road, about 5k west of Kuranda. John Crowhurst
will show the way from junction of main road, 0730.
Nov 21 Variety of habitats between Atherton and Herberton.
Meet outside Woodland Caravan Park 0730.
Dec 19 Redding Island, Machan's Beach. Meet by the toilet
block end of Cinderella St.
4th Sunday of the month -
Cairns Esplanade shore-birding.

Jun 27 Esplanade birding from 1530hrs.
July 25 Esplanade birding from 1530hrs. All species will be
just sitting there. Test your non-breeding plumage skills.
Aug 22 Esplanade birding from 1400hrs. Another neap tide to
see the new arrivals from North Asia.

Sep 26 Esplanade birding from 1600hrs.
Oct 24 Esplanade birding from 1530hrs.
Oct 31
Nov 28 Esplanade birding from 0630hrs.
